The Nga Tawa Junior School is comprised of students in Years 9 and 10. The focus of the Junior School curriculum is to provide opportunities for students to experience a range of disciplines, as well as to build sound skills and competence in core subjects.
Year 10 is seen as a vital preparatory year for NCEA and provides the essential grounding necessary for success in the senior school. In some subjects, some NCEA standards are offered to assist the transition to Year 11.
Programmes in the Junior School cover the learning areas of English; Mathematics; Sciences; Social Sciences -Social Studies, Economics; Physical Education and Health; the Arts - Visual Art, Drama, Music; Technology – Digital Technology, Food and Nutrition, Graphics, Soft Materials Technology; Languages – French, Spanish; Equine Studies; and Religion and Philosophical Studies.
