"Teachers’ relationships with students promote high levels of participation in lessons. Teachers show strong commitment to the success and welfare of their students."
ERO 2010
It’s no secret that girls’ school students benefit from a tailored curriculum that employs teaching methods by which girls learn best. However research released over the past decade supports a wide range of advantages female graduates receive as a result of a single-sex secondary education.
Some of these advantages include:
- Greater Academic Engagement
- Higher Test Scores
- Greater Interest in Graduate School
- Higher Academic Self-Confidence
- Higher Confidence in Mathematical and Scientific Ability and Computer Skills
Girls’ School Graduates Have An Edge!
For the first time, educators have solid evidence of girls' schools' effectiveness. In April 2009, UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies released the results of a well-documented, national study which shows the statistically significant edge girls' school graduates have over their coed peers. This peer-reviewed research disentangles the effects of single-sex education from confounding demographic influences. At a time when education is on the national agenda, UCLA's study will make a significant contribution to the discussion.
