Nga Tawa is a Year 9 -13 integrated, Anglican girls' boarding school situated in the heart of the Rangitikei. Until the mid 1980s, the school attracted mainly daughters of farming families, whose only option was generally full boarding. More recently however, students have been enrolled from a more diverse range of backgrounds, the majority citing accessibility of sporting and cultural opportunities offered at the school after hours and on the weekends; as their primary reason for boarding.
Nga Tawa, founded in 1891, has a rich and long history with many fine traditions and a well defined core culture. The special character of Nga Tawa is briefly outlined in the prospectus and the many benefits, which I believe accrue to our students, are detailed. We are an Anglican boarding school concentrating on academic excellence, with a supporting focus on music, sports, equestrian and the arts.
The needs of society are changing and our challenge is to work on initiatives that better prepare our students for life in the twenty-first century. It is important for society that capable women achieve positions of influence and authority alongside their male counterparts. Nga Tawa’s education offers many opportunities for students to establish networks with others sharing common educational characteristics and expectations. Those who embrace opportunities offered by Nga Tawa will be employable, well balanced, confident individuals achieving to potential academically, in sport, culture and life beyond the school gates.
At Nga Tawa School we look to the future with enthusiasm. Our teaching and learning, buildings, grounds and resources are of the highest quality and our students' results speak for themselves.
