Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy

Nga Tawa has a beautiful Chapel. The whole school meets there three times a week.

In the Chapel students take an active part, leading prayers, reading from the bible and singing. All students have a copy of the recently published Nga Tawa Chapel Prayer Book which helps to ensure that everyone can be a part of our services. We also give out birthday cards and commemorate other special events in students' lives. Our services usually last about fifteen minutes.

On feast days or special occasions we have longer services and use the school hall. This is because it is larger than the Chapel and allows us to invite parents and friends. Last year we used the hall for six major services including the occasion when a number of our senior girls were Baptised. (Christened). The previous year eighteen girls were Confirmed.

Chaplaincy is not confined to acts of worship. Our Chaplain Peter Brown leads the department of Religious and Philosophical Studies, wherein he teaches every student, and is a prominent member of the school's Pastoral Care Team. Mr Brown lives on site with his wife, Trish, who also works in the school.

Chaplaincy at Nga Tawa does not end when a student leaves the school. All are welcome to return and join in our services and celebrations. Past pupils are encouraged to celebrate their weddings in the Chapel.

Chaplaincy at Nga Tawa is not restricted to the Chapel building or to our various acts of worship, it permeates the whole of the school culture.
