Special Character

Special Character

Nga Tawa is an Anglican school and therefore it follows Anglican traditions. As the Wellington Diocesan School for Girls, Nga Tawa has played a pivotal role in girls' Christian education in the Wellington Diocese since 1912.

A caring Christian community has been fostered and maintained and Nga Tawa is proud of its family atmosphere, evident at all key school fixtures. Extended families are invited to a variety of events on the school calendar, from Athletics and Swimming Sports to House Drama, House Music, Soirée, Dinners and Chapel Services.

The Chapel of St. Leonard is at the heart of school life. It stands proudly inside the main gates leading to the circular driveway and reception area. Three times a week Chapel services reinforce Christian school values while providing an opportunity to showcase student art and talent.

Other dimensions of Nga Tawa's Special Character include music, equestrian and the arts. Each of these dimensions attracts students to the school. The Equestrian Academy attracts over one third of all students and Music and the Arts (visual and performing) are strengths at Nga Tawa.

Nga Tawa's special character includes 100 acres of beautiful, park like surroundings. With 250 boarders,  a roll increase is expected to increase the number of day girls (by 25 places) to 50 day girls from 2010. The gardens, grounds and boarding houses offer a tranquil living and learning environment for all.

Nga Tawa offers a special educational environment. We invite you to visit us to experience the advantages of a Nga Tawa education for your daughter.
