The Boarding Team

Ms Fiona Campbell - Year 10 Boarding Manager

My background is in Nutrition and Exercise Science, having studied at Massey University and worked as a Health Promoter in schools. I am excited to be the Year 10 Boarding Manager and look forward to making a positive impact on the girls in boarding, so that through their experiences at Nga Tawa they may grow with respect, integrity and courage. I enjoy young people's vibrancy and have previously been involved in Boarding and Day school at a Public school in the UK as a tutor. I have also been involved in leadership roles in youth groups and youth camps.

 Boarding Matron

Mrs Gaye Hansen -Year 9 Boarding Manager

I enjoy working in boarding as I have responsibility for Year 9 boarders, as well as a number of Year 11 boarders. Working with Year 9 is especially rewarding as you see them adjusting to a boarding environment and starting to build friendships that will last a lifetime. I see my role as providing a caring and nurturing environment while they adjust to living away from home.

I believe a boarding experience at Nga Tawa builds resilient, self reliant young women who are able to confidently make their way in the world. Our international focus and awareness also gives boarders the opportunity to experience other cultures without leaving New Zealand.

Mrs Irene Fulton - Main Block Year 11 Boarding Manager

I enjoy working with boarders. Like teenagers everywhere they try to push the boundaries, but they are also full of fun and laughter, strength and compassion.

It is rewarding to watch them grow in confidence and maturity during their time at Nga Tawa. Boarders mix with others of different cultures and back grounds and through their interactions learn to respect other views and differences. Boarders are able to concentrate on their studies, without outside distractions, giving them the opportunity to achieve to their academic potential.

Frances Bertram - Marshall House Boarding Matron

Mrs Frances Bertram - Marshall House Boarding Manager

My responsibilities enable me to provide senior boarders with opportunities for personal growth and which assist them to move from dependence to independence. Watching boarders develop skills and mature into capable young women is an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

The benefits of boarding are enormous: girls form lifelong friendships, learn tolerance through accepting differences and challenges at an earlier age, gain independence and an ability to relate to the wider spectrum of society. Their maturity and respect for others provides the groundwork for a successful and rewarding life.

Mrs Robyn Taylor -Year 9 Boarding Manager

I come new to Nga Tawa having worked with the elderly in residential care for some 17 years.

Previous experience with younger teenagers has been from raising my four children. I enjoyed bringing them up and assisting to equip them with skills to take them from the 'nest' through university to their chosen careers.

I enjoy teenagers and look forward to getting to know and working with our new Year 9 boarders. My goal is to have a positive influence in boarders' lives while helping them to make the transition from home to boarding as easy and enjoyable as possible. This will undoubtedly flow on to successful learning.

Mrs Kim Knight - Year 13 Boarding Manager

My name is Kim Knight. I originally come from Hawke's Bay and have moved to Marton to take the position as Boarding Manager at Nga Tawa. My role is managing the boarding needs of the Year 13 girls.

Year 13 girls live in cottages, similar to a flatting situation. The girls are able to cook for themselves on weekends and have the responsibility of keeping their cottages clean and tidy. They can socialise in their cottages after prep in the evenings and learn to manage their time independently, in preparation for university.

Year 13 is a busy year as the girls take on more responsibilities in school and learn to balance these with their academic studies and extra-curricular activities.
