The difference between extraordinary and ordinary is that bit ‘extra' and through Nga Tawa's revised sports programme it is about providing that ‘extra'. Commitment, pride and striving for excellence are key elements to Nga Tawa's sport and fitness programmes. A variety of sports are offered throughout the year with the approach of providing for all students whether high performance or social.
It is compulsory for Year 9 - Year 11 to be involved in a winter and summer sport, with the option of only one sport for Year 12-13. Year 9 - 13 are also involved in the afterschool personal fitness programme at least once a week which includes circuit training and aerobics. The programme's purpose is about sowing the seed for ‘healthy activity for life'.
Quality coaches are sourced from for every sports code. Coaching fees and administrative costs are split between players and billed to home accounts at the end of every term, where applicable. Students are continually encouraged to participate in a range of cultural and sporting activities to ensure a balanced lifestyle.
Students can apply to the Sport Academy which provides the purpose of enhancing excellence in sports performance with specialist coaching, monitoring fitness programmes and nutrition being key areas.
