When Wing arrived at Nga Tawa from Macau in Year 11, she was embarking on her first experience studying abroad and learning in English.
Wing says her greatest lesson from Nga Tawa has been to dare to try. Through stepping outside her comfort zone and embracing new experiences, she has become more outgoing and developed the courage to face the future with greater confidence.
“I entered Nga Tawa in Year 11 Term 3, marking my first time studying abroad in English and leaving my hometown. Initially, I thought it was just a change of school, but I later discovered the differences were huge.
As a new student, I was nervous and anxious, but my classmates proactively cared for and helped me integrate into the class, which made me feel incredibly warm. At first, I was unfamiliar with the schedule at the boarding school, but after adapting, I felt more energetic and vibrant. In terms of academics, everyone was happy to ask each other questions, a supportive atmosphere I had always dreamed of.
The teachers were also patient in guiding me, especially after learning that I had previously studied only in Chinese. They encouraged and praised me when I achieved small successes. These seemingly small affirmations were key for me to maintaining a positive mindset.
The biggest lesson the school taught me in these two and a half years is: dare to try. In the past, I was afraid of new things, and although there are still things I'm afraid to do, I've made significant progress. Through continuous experimentation, I've become more outgoing and have more courage to face the future.”
